Young America:

We have elected a president who will listen to us. We have demonstrated that we have the education, the power, and the ambition to make things happen. January 20th is only the beginning of what can be done.

To be negative is really to be lazy and apathetic. Quit your bitching and go out and do something if you’re upset. This isn’t about political parties—it’s about the improvement of lives. If you are just going to sit there and yell, then what kind of respect should you be granted by anyone?

Truthfully, I have no real problems in my own life. I got into a respectable university and I am receiving a good education; I work for a private company and I like my boss that has always appreciated me as a young person and a woman. I never have to go without anything, and I can abort anything growing in my uterus if I am dumb enough to get pregnant with all of the contraceptive options that I am able to afford.

There is nothing about my life that is drastically different from the lives of the “young republicans” that I know, except maybe what goes on in my head.

The government does nothing that affects my life—even with the economy, I had a very nice Christmas and I keep going to restaurants and on weekend trips and buying crap that I don’t need.

Does that mean that I have nothing to look forward to? Nothing I can improve? Nothing to care about? I’m not starving, I’m not sick, I’m not dying, I’m not an animal, I’m not on welfare, I’m not a drug addict, I’m not gay, so I shouldn’t have to care about any of those things?

How about uniting in a celebration of difference that we take for granted? How about proving that we aren’t just worthless, conceited, drunk-on-the-weekends, coddled college students? Really—being in your early twenties just means you are a glorified teenager.

“IT TOOK 28 SECONDS FOR AMERICA TO BE TRANSFORMED.”

No, actually, ABC News Idiot. Nothing happened. Big surprise—Obama just took office as planned. It’s a presidency, not a fucking magic show. Things will not change without our help, support, resistance, demonstration.

He is only a man that represents the HOPE that has always been perpetuated by Young America. ”Now is the time to set aside childish things,” the time to grow the fuck up.
